A Scribe alternative that keeps your guides in your browser

Capture turns a recording of a Chrome tab into a step-by-step guide: every click becomes a numbered step with a screenshot and the clicked spot marked. Guides are edited and saved in your browser, not in an online account, and a PDF of up to 10 steps is free. Capture Pro, $10/month or $100/year, removes the step limit and adds Markdown export, share links and version history.

Why switch

What Capture does differently

Your guides stay in your browser

Guides, their screenshots and your edits are saved in your browser on capture.appzlr.com. Nothing is uploaded unless you share a guide as a link, and the click note behind the steps is positions only: never page text or what you type.

Free PDFs with no watermark

On the free plan you can make, edit and save as many guides as you like, and export each one as a PDF of up to 10 steps.

Fix a step without starting over

Pick another frame for a step that shows the wrong moment, add steps from a new recording, or replace the old ones when the process changes. Each step's screenshot is taken just before the click, so an open menu is still showing.

One price, one person

Capture Pro is $10/month or $100/year, with no seat minimum. It also includes the screenshot editor, auto-zoom and share links for screenshots and recordings.

To be fair

When Scribe may suit you better

  • You document desktop or mobile apps, not only Chrome tabs.
  • Your team comments on guides and works in one shared account.
  • You need HTML export, embeds or company branding.
  • You want guides made automatically from work you've already done, or automatic redaction of personal data on an Enterprise plan.
FAQ

Questions and answers

Is Capture a free Scribe alternative?

Making, editing and saving step-by-step guides is free, and so is a PDF of up to 10 steps with no watermark. Capture Pro, $10/month or $100/year for one person, adds PDFs of any length, Markdown export, version history and share links of up to 100 steps. Pro + AI, $20/month or $200/year, also writes the step text.

Does Capture upload my guides?

No. Guides and their screenshots are saved in your browser on capture.appzlr.com. A guide is only uploaded if you share it as a link with Capture Pro, or if Pro + AI step text is written by Google's Gemini API because Chrome can't write it on your computer.

Can Capture make guides of desktop apps?

No. Capture makes guides from a Chrome tab recorded with the extension. Steps in a desktop app, another window or your whole screen aren't captured.

Can I use Capture and Scribe together?

Yes. They don't interfere with each other. Each one opens from its own toolbar icon.
